Authorities Rescue 18 Human Trafficking Victims in Playa del Carmen Bar Raid

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities rescued 18 women believed to be victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation during a raid on a bar in this popular tourist destination. The operation, conducted by the State Prosecutor’s Office with support from the National Guard, followed a judge’s warrant.

Police located the women at an establishment on Avenida 100 between 20th and 22nd North streets in the Ejidal neighborhood. The group included 14 Mexican nationals, three Cuban women, and one Nicaraguan woman, all of whom were placed under protective custody as potential victims.

Initial investigations indicate the women were in vulnerable situations and had been recruited to work as hostesses, earning 200 pesos per drink sold but receiving only 100 pesos. According to witness statements, bar managers later pressured them into providing sexual services, requiring a payment of 1,000 pesos to leave the premises with clients—money that had to be turned over to the establishment’s cashier.

During the search, authorities seized evidence including cash, condoms, service orders, notebooks with records, a cell phone, various documents, and health cards. All items were handed over to prosecutors for inclusion in the investigation file.

After completing the operation, officials sealed the property, which remains under the State Prosecutor’s Office’s custody as part of the ongoing legal process. Investigators continue working to determine responsibilities in the case, while the rescued women receive institutional support and protection.
