Authorities Investigate Rolex Theft From Foreign Tourist in Tulum
Tulum, Quintana Roo — Authorities are investigating the alleged theft of a luxury Rolex watch from a foreign tourist at a restaurant in the Aldea Zama neighborhood, though no formal complaint has been filed.
Officials from the Public Security and Citizen Protection Department (SSPC) said they are reviewing security camera footage to identify the suspect. The incident reportedly occurred at Taquería 86, where a man approached the tourist’s table, snatched the watch from his wrist, and fled.
Video from the restaurant’s surveillance system, circulated unofficially, shows the suspect approaching the diner, making a quick motion to remove the watch, and leaving before anyone could react.
SSPC sources confirmed the case remains open despite the lack of a formal complaint. According to information gathered by police, the victims decided not to pursue legal action due to fear after the incident and because they planned to continue their travel itinerary.
