Cancún, Quintana Roo — State authorities dismantled a criminal network that allegedly used taxi services to operate in the tourist area of Punta Sam, seizing five vehicles and detaining one suspect.
The operation took place Friday night near the ferry terminal that connects to Isla Mujeres, a strategic point for transporting tourists and workers to the Costa Mujeres tourist corridor.
State police officers and investigative agents entered a parking lot where transportation vehicles typically gather in the area. During the search, authorities seized five vehicles, including four taxis marked as “Platinum Service” from the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Taxi Union, plus a gray pickup truck.
Sources close to the case said officers detained a woman shortly before the operation, who is preliminarily identified as the suspected leader of a criminal group operating in the area.
Authorities are investigating her possible connection to high-impact crimes, including drug trafficking, extortion, and homicides, activities that allegedly used taxi units.
The seized vehicles were removed with tow trucks and transported for further investigation. The property was cordoned off and placed under guard by ministerial agents.
Investigations also aim to determine the possible connection of this structure with members of the taxi union, currently headed by Luis Ortiz Ramírez.
The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office has not yet issued a detailed official report on the operation but confirmed that investigations continue to clarify the scope of the alleged criminal network operating under the guise of transportation services.
