Tulum, Quintana Roo – In an effort to revitalize Tulum’s struggling tourism industry, the Aura Music Fest has been officially announced. Set to take place August 14–16 in the Parque Museo de la Cultura Maya, this free, open-air festival blends music, culture, fashion, and gastronomy—and it’s backed by a powerful alliance of public and private sponsors.

The festival’s highlight performances include Venezuelan pop star Lasso on August 15 and beloved Mexican group Playa Limbo on August 16. Organizers are also working to add top bands from Quintana Roo to the lineup, giving local talent a chance to shine.

At a press conference in Playa del Carmen—soon to be repeated in Cancún, Tulum, Valladolid, and Mexico City—city councilor Jorge Portilla Mánica, along with leaders from the Tourism Promotion Council and COPARMEX, laid out the broader vision: to bring national and international visitors back to Tulum through high-profile, culturally rich events.

The festival was proposed by Portilla Mánica and quickly endorsed by Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo. It will feature not just music, but a showcase of Maya crafts, regional fashion, local cuisine, and a photography exhibition, all spotlighting the region’s deep cultural roots.

Hotel groups including Wyndham, Rosanegra, Tankah, Amexme, and Zoren—alongside Visit México, the Tulum Tourism Promotion Council, and Festivales Zanma—are funding the initiative. The Jaguar Park, Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, and the newly revived airline Mexicana de Aviación will also provide advertising support, underscoring the widespread commitment to Tulum’s recovery.

Festivalgoers can expect special hotel rates during the event, with hopes that the local restaurant sector will join the promotional push as well.

And the momentum won’t stop with this one festival. Organizers are already planning a statewide celebration marking the anniversary of Quintana Roo’s founding, with the goal of reaffirming the region’s status as a top-tier tourist destination in Latin America.

“Tulum’s diversity—its cenotes, Maya communities, and archaeological wonders—is its greatest asset,” said Portilla Mánica. “We’re confident this festival will help bring back the visitors our community depends on.”
