Cancún, Quintana Roo — Armed motorcyclists fired shots into the air early Thursday morning in Cancún’s Vista Real neighborhood, causing panic among residents and business owners, with one bullet striking the metal roof of a taco stand. Authorities reported no injuries.
The incident occurred around midnight on Avenida Págalo near Monte Francia Street in the Supermanzana 254 area. Witnesses reported at least four individuals on two motorcycles circling local businesses including a taco stand, a grocery store, and a convenience store.
After several minutes, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots into the air. Witnesses counted at least six gunshots before the motorcyclists sped away down Avenida Págalo toward Madero Street, where they disappeared from view.
One bullet struck the metal roof of a food establishment, though it did not penetrate the structure. Emergency calls to 911 prompted a response from municipal police, who interviewed witnesses at the scene.
Witnesses described the suspects as four men on two black motorcycles wearing dark clothing. Police launched a search operation in the Vista Real neighborhood and surrounding areas including Galaxias del Sol and La Joya, but made no arrests.
Authorities collected the bullet that struck the taco stand as evidence and turned it over to the State Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators suspect the incident may have been an extortion attempt targeting local businesses.
The Investigation Police will continue investigating the case.
