Armed Attack Leaves 26-Year-Old Man Critically Wounded in Cancun
Cancun, Quintana Roo — A 26-year-old man was critically wounded early Saturday in a shooting in Cancun’s Supermanzana 67 neighborhood, authorities said.
The attack was reported around 3 a.m. on Calle 36 at the corner of 3 Norte, after neighbors alerted police to gunfire.
Officers arriving at the scene found a red Chevrolet sedan with multiple bullet holes. Inside, they discovered the victim, identified as Joel Gerardo.
Paramedics provided first aid and rushed him to the IMSS Specialty Hospital for emergency treatment.
Investigators noted at least three bullet impacts on the vehicle and recovered five spent 9mm shell casings, which were turned over to forensic experts.
According to later reports, a bullet entered the victim’s left shoulder and traveled through his body, causing severe internal injuries including damage to one lung. He was intubated due to his critical condition.
Because of the severity of his wounds, investigators were unable to interview him about the attack or identify suspects.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance cameras from the area. No arrests have been reported.
