Holbox, Quintana Roo — Authorities arrested a lawyer suspected of serving as the financial operator for a criminal group on Holbox island, seizing drugs and other evidence during a coordinated security operation.
Police officers from the Centurion Group of the Citizen Security Department, working with the Mexican Navy, Mexican Army, and National Guard, detained Guadalupe Ramón “N” and Jhonatan “N” on Canané Street near Gonzalo Guerrero, next to a wooden fence.
Officials announced that officers on patrol spotted the two men behind an ATV exchanging small transparent plastic bags containing green vegetation resembling marijuana.
After searching the suspects, police seized 138 ziploc bags with dry green plant material similar to marijuana, along with a backpack, a fanny pack, six cell phones, and a notebook with notes. They also secured a red and black Can Am ATV without license plates.
Preliminary information indicates Guadalupe Ramón “N” is a lawyer who allegedly handled accounting for a criminal organization operating on the island. He is also suspected of being involved in threats against local vendors to extort protection payments and gain control over private surveillance cameras.
Both detainees were handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking, where their legal status will be determined as the investigation progresses.
