Man arrested for extortion in Playa del Carmen

Alejandro N detained for extortion in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Alejandro “N” has been placed under preventive detention after being accused of allegedly extorting a man in Playa del Carmen, demanding weekly payments of 30,000 pesos under threat of death, according to the investigation. The Prosecutor’s Office presented the evidence before a judge and secured the advancement of the criminal process.

The case began in July when the victim started receiving messages, phone calls, and even in-person visits from the accused, who allegedly demanded money using direct intimidation. Months later, another individual reinforced the threats by leaving a bullet as a warning to force him to pay.

Following the complaint, ministerial agents compiled the case file and requested an arrest warrant, which was executed in the Misión Villamar subdivision. There, Alejandro “N” was detained without incident.

During the hearing for compliance with the judicial mandate, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes presented the evidence pointing to the accused. The judge, after hearing both parties, decided to link him to the process for aggravated extortion and leave him in preventive detention while the complementary investigation develops.

With this resolution, the case will continue its legal course while responsibilities are determined and the evidence presented by the authorities is strengthened.
