Agua Azul, Quintana Roo — The rural community of Agua Azul in southern Lázaro Cárdenas municipality will launch a year-long ecotourism promotion strategy in 2026 to attract more national and international visitors, according to local officials.
Felipe de Jesús Dzib Dzul, the community’s ecotourism coordinator, said the campaign will highlight the area’s natural attractions and its integration into the region’s cenote route, positioning it as part of the alternative tourism offerings in Quintana Roo.
“We have a major advantage by being within the cenote route, which allows us to offer complete experiences for those seeking direct contact with nature,” Dzib Dzul said.
Ecotourism Activities Available
The ecotourism proposal includes activities already available in Agua Azul for visitors exploring this part of the state:
- Recreational swimming in water bodies
- Kayak tours
- Hiking
- Flora and fauna observation
- Areas designated for rest and socializing
Location and Access
Dzib Dzul noted that the ecotourism site is located 10 minutes from the community of Valladolid Nuevo, making it accessible to visitors traveling through the cenote route region. The community of Juárez, which has additional natural spaces integrated into the regional alternative tourism offerings, sits just five minutes from the site.
The ecotourism coordinator emphasized that the 2026 promotion strategy aims to generate direct benefits for local families by strengthening alternative tourism and promoting responsible use of the natural environment.
