A man, believed to be around 40 years old, was tragically killed this afternoon during an attempted robbery at a Bancomer bank branch. The incident took place in the Portales building of the 28th Market in Cancún. Initial reports suggest that the attack happened around 3 pm, near the intersection of Xel-Ha and Xpujil avenues.
Witnesses recount that the man was about to deposit money at an ATM when he was confronted by armed assailants. They attempted to steal his backpack, but the man put up a fight. In the ensuing struggle, the robbers shot him in the chest and head before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Police were promptly dispatched to Xpujil avenue in response to calls from witnesses and bank staff. The man's body was found inside the bank, surrounded by a pool of blood. The area was quickly cordoned off by the Municipal Police to allow the State Attorney General's Office to begin their investigation.
Forensic Services agents were later brought in to remove the body and secure a motorcycle believed to belong to the victim. As of now, there have been no reports of any arrests in connection with the incident.
