Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo — The government of Playa del Carmen, through the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters, reported that a fire at the Sac-Be condominium was successfully extinguished, and 28 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure. No injuries were reported.
The fire originated in a palapa structure on the rooftop and spread to rooms and common areas of the complex, which contains 12 apartments. This led to the evacuation of 15 residents from the affected building. Furthermore, due to the detachment of incandescent material, 13 people from the adjacent building were also evacuated as a safety measure.
Emergency response units, including Firefighters, operational personnel from Civil Protection, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, Tourist Police, and other emergency corps, responded to the report immediately. They successfully controlled the fire in its entirety and established a security perimeter to safeguard the neighbors.
The Playa del Carmen City Council reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of families and immediate emergency response, highlighting the inter-institutional coordination that allowed for the mitigation of this incident without loss of human life.
