CJNG Hitman Crucito Dies of Overdose in Custody

Cancún, Mexico — Cruz Alberto Cervantes Miranda, known by the alias "Crucito," died on Wednesday night from an apparent overdose in an apartment in the Villas Otoch Paraíso subdivision. Cervantes Miranda was confined to a chair and wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet at the time of his death, having previously been granted a change in his pre-trial custody status from justified preventive prison to house arrest due to his physical condition.

As previously documented, "Crucito" was responsible for the murder of six young people and one elderly adult at a party on January 20, 2019. The attack was perpetrated after his girlfriend falsely claimed she had been raped. On that occasion, Cruz Alberto, who was a chief of sicarios, or hitmen, for the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), arrived at the party accompanied by his friend Christopher to carry out the armed attack, which resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals.

Following the massacre, Cervantes Miranda fled Cancún and relocated to Jalisco, where he continued his criminal activities. However, in February 2019, he was involved in a shootout with elements of the Mexican Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA), during which he lost a leg.

The confrontation with federal forces resulted in the seizure of an arsenal, six dead sicarios, several individuals detained, and two wounded, including Cruz Alberto.

After his capture, "Crucito" was hospitalized for several months. Upon his release from the hospital, he was transferred to Quintana Roo to face charges for the multiple homicide he had committed.

In January of this year, his defense requested house arrest due to his physical condition, and he was subsequently transferred with an electronic monitoring bracelet to his home in the Villas Lakin subdivision in region 258. However, in February, he removed the bracelet and attempted to flee but was located once again by the authorities.

His criminal trajectory ended on Wednesday night when he was found dead from an apparent overdose at 21:30 hours in an apartment located in region 259, block 108, on Avenida 20 de Noviembre.
