Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Two individuals were detained on Monday afternoon in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta neighborhood by agents of the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC), accused of the probable commission of the crime of extortion.

Arrest Follows 911 Report

According to the police report, a citizen had called 911 to alert authorities about an extortion crime. Upon arriving at the scene, the agents located two subjects matching the reported descriptions. The individuals identified themselves as Adán Gabriel “N”, 31 years old, and Plácido “N”, 37 years old, both originally from Puebla.

When the agents intercepted the subjects and conducted an inspection, they secured an amount of cash and two cell phones. Authorities stated this evidence will support the ongoing investigations.

Suspects Turned Over to State Prosecutor

The detained criminal suspects and the secured evidence were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo. The office will determine their legal status and continue with the judicial processes.

Authorities Encourage Victims to Report Crimes

The SSC authorities are inviting those affected by such crimes to file a formal complaint with the corresponding institutions to initiate the investigation process and ensure the law is applied. However, the report notes that many victims of extortion prefer to remain silent rather than file a report due to high levels of bureaucracy and the alleged complicity between the Attorney General's Office and criminals.
