Chetumal — A distressing incident occurred this morning on Boulevard Bahía, near the Megaescultura, where a small dog was allegedly attacked by a crocodile. The animal was left gravely injured with its organs exposed on the shoreline and did not receive immediate assistance.
It has not been confirmed whether the dog had an owner or was a stray, but it was found in a completely vulnerable state. The attack took place in an area frequently used by families, joggers, cyclists, and people with pets, underscoring the real risk posed by the proximity of humans, domestic animals, and wildlife in the absence of adequate protective measures.
This event has not only caused outrage among citizens and animal rights organizations but has also brought to light an alarming reality: the lack of signage, safety barriers, and effective monitoring in areas inhabited by crocodiles. This is particularly concerning during the rainy season when the reptiles tend to venture closer to the shore.
