Cancún, Q. R. — Captain Armando Castillo Huerta, a high-ranking National Guard officer stationed at the Cancún International Airport, is facing mounting allegations regarding his purported involvement in a network providing protection for illicit activities, according to reports circulating on social media and sources close to the corporation.
The accusations indicate that Castillo Huerta allegedly facilitated narcotrafficking operations, extortion, and other crimes in exchange for bribes or economic benefits. According to the circulating information, the captain purportedly leaked strategic data to criminal groups and ordered his subordinates to omit surveillance actions when these organizations were operating in key areas of the airport.
The controversy intensified following a violent incident that occurred a few weeks ago at the Cancún Airport itself, when, due to disagreements over the distribution of illicit payments, one National Guard element shot another. This event reinforced suspicions of internal conflicts linked to alleged illegal benefits.
There has been no officially announced investigation to date, but civil society organizations and citizens are demanding that the State Attorney General's Office and federal authorities conduct a thorough review of operations at the air terminal.
Specialists warn that if these accusations are proven, Castillo Huerta could face charges for abuse of authority, obstruction of justice, and bribery, in addition to jeopardizing the security of one of Mexico's most important airports.
Public pressure is increasing for audits to be carried out and for digital evidence to be gathered, including internal communications and financial records, to clarify the scope of the alleged corruption network and determine responsibilities within the National Guard in Cancún.
