Cozumel, Mexico — The Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) recently held a special edition of its traditional "Una Cana al Aire" dance night, an event this year dedicated to the festivities in honor of San Miguel Arcángel, the island's patron saint. This gathering has become a pillar of Cozumel's cultural identity, promoting family togetherness and the rescue of local traditions.

The festive day was organized by the Directorate of Pedagogy and Social Assistance (PAS) and began with an animated cowboy dance under the direction of Juanita Alonso Marrufo, the general director of the FPMC. During her inaugural speech, Alonso Marrufo expressed her gratitude to the community for its participation and underscored the importance of keeping alive the traditions that, for more than 30 years, have been promoted by the foundation. According to her words, these activities not only foster entertainment but also strengthen the social and cultural fabric of the region.

One of the most notable moments of the night was the presentation of the "mestizas" from the Latin dance workshop, directed by the renowned teacher Lupita Pantí. The dancers dazzled attendees with their energy and passion for dance, which resonated with the audience and was a reason for recognition from the director. Alonso Marrufo emphasized the relevance of the collective effort to preserve and disseminate cultural traditions through the art of dance.

As is customary, the flag esplanade was transformed into a vibrant space for community gathering. Attendees were able to enjoy a variety of local snacks and typical beverages, which complemented the evening's culinary experience. Subsequently, the musical group "Saborcito Tropical" took the stage, filling the atmosphere with Caribbean rhythms that invited all those present to join together on the dance floor, marking a positive development in the event's social dynamic.

The celebration not only attracted residents of Cozumel but also welcomed numerous visitors who, drawn by the festive atmosphere, momentarily left their tourist activities to join the celebration by the sea. This connection between locals and tourists became a factor that enriched the cultural experience, allowing for the transmission of Cozumel's traditions in an environment of joy and camaraderie.

This event falls within the framework of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, who has emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural identity and promoting social unity as a basis for touristic and human development in the entity. The realization of "Una Cana al Aire" is a clear example of how culture can be a powerful vehicle for community cohesion and appreciation for local roots.
