Mexico City — The seasonal time change in Mexico, once a nationwide practice, will now only affect specific states and regions along the northern border. The adjustment, which involves setting clocks back by one hour, is scheduled for November 2nd.

This change is mandated by Article 5 of the Law of Time Zones in the United Mexican States. The seasonal time adjustment that was previously implemented in March will be reversed on the first Sunday of November, as established by the law.

Where Will Clocks Be Set Back?

The daylight saving time law was modified in 2022. While it previously applied to the entire country, it now only applies to certain states and regions.

Only five states are required to set their clocks back for the winter time period, and only in the following specific municipalities and localities:

  1. Coahuila de Zaragoza (by the 75°W meridian): Acuña, Allende, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jiménez, Morelos, Nava, Ocampo, Piedras Negras, Villa Unión, Zaragoza.
  2. Nuevo León (by the 75°W meridian): Anáhuac.
  3. Tamaulipas (by the 75°W meridian): Nuevo Laredo, Guerrero, Mier, Miguel Alemán, Camargo, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, Reynosa, Río Bravo, Valle Hermoso, Matamoros.
  4. Chihuahua: By the 90°W meridian: Coyame del Sotol, Ojinaga, Manuel Benavides. By the 105°W meridian: Janos, Ascensión, Juárez, Praxedis G. Guerrero, Guadalupe.
  5. Baja California (by the 105°W meridian).

Will the Time Change in the Rest of the Country?

The answer is clear and simple: no. The law specifies the locations where the winter time adjustment must be made, meaning no type of change is required in the rest of Mexican territory.

What is the Standard Time in Mexico?

The Time Zone Law establishes that throughout the country, except for the aforementioned states and municipalities on the northern border, the standard time is the former daylight saving time.
