Cancún, Mexico — Taxis in Cancún will install surveillance cameras connected to the C5 command and control center as part of a pilot plan for a comprehensive project to modernize and improve security in public transportation, announced Rubén Carrillo Buenfil, the general secretary of the "Andrés Quintana Roo" Union.

Taxis Strengthen Security and Supervision

In the first phase, 200 of a total of six thousand units will be equipped, with the objective of strengthening the security of both drivers and passengers, as well as improving the supervision of the service they provide in the city.

Carrillo Buenfil explained that the new system will include tablets that will allow for the real-time monitoring of the units' performance, which will facilitate the prevention of incidents and offer a reliable surveillance system.

"The objective is to prevent situations that could put passengers and drivers at risk during transit, providing safer and more transparent transportation," he said.

Cancún at the Forefront of Technological Security

The union leader highlighted that this strategy places Cancún in sync with the technological security trends applied in other tourist cities around the world. As a destination with a significant flow of national and international visitors, the service must meet user expectations and guarantee peace of mind on every trip.

Modernization and Transparency in Fares

The official, who is also a deputy, reported that, in addition, the union is working on the implementation of taximeters in the units, with the goal of offering fair and transparent fares. He indicated that the city's rapid growth and the increase in travel distances make this measure necessary.

"Today we must provide certainty and security, both in the fare and in the operation of the transportation, and the taximeter responds to these needs," he expressed.

Finally, he indicated that these actions are part of a modernization process for the union that is being carried out in parallel with other service improvement projects, strengthening the professionalization of taxi drivers.
