Mérida — A tragic incident occurred this Saturday in the Emiliano Zapata Oriente neighborhood, where a man lost his life and four more people were injured following a bee attack.

The events were recorded on Calle 24 at the intersection of Calles 33 and 37, when a swarm surprised a group of people socializing in the public street. Witnesses reported that the victims were attacked suddenly, without the possibility of taking shelter.

The death of one man was confirmed at the scene, while four people suffered multiple bee stings: two of them received attention on site and refused to be transferred, and the other two were admitted to the Hospital Agustín O’Horan.

Personnel from the Fire Department managed to control the swarm to prevent further incidents, but full access to the house where the hive is presumed to be located remains restricted due to the risk it represents.

The arrival of pest control specialists is awaited to secure the area, recover the body, and continue with the investigation. The attack has caused alarm in the area and highlights the danger posed by these swarms when they nest near homes and public spaces.
