Mérida, Yucatán — The state of Yucatán will host the 5th Latin American Summit for Sustainable Fishing and Aquaculture, bringing together leaders and experts from the sector. Yucatán will present the first state-level Climate Action Plan for Fishing and Aquaculture, positioning itself as a benchmark in fishing sustainability.

From December 3 to 5, Yucatán will welcome leaders from the fishing and aquaculture sector across Latin America to the 5th Latin American Summit for Sustainable Fishing and Aquaculture, which will be held at the Yucatán International Congress Center. The announcement was made by the State Government through the Secretariat of Sustainable Fishing and Aquaculture (Sepasy), in coordination with the Mexican Council for the Promotion of Fishery and Aquaculture Products (Comepesca).

The presentation of the event took place at the Casa de Yucatán in Mexico City, led by the head of Sepasy, Lila Frías Castillo, who emphasized that this meeting will gather regional and international experiences in sustainability.

"During the Summit, regional and international experiences will be shared, and the Climate Action Plan for Fishing and Aquaculture will be presented, a pioneering plan in Mexico that positions Yucatán as a leader in sustainability," informed Frías Castillo.

The state official highlighted that this international meeting is possible thanks to the alliance between the administration led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and Comepesca, with the goal of promoting sustainable policies, fostering products with added value, and consolidating Yucatán as a national benchmark for innovation and environmental responsibility within the sector.

For three days, Mérida will be the meeting point for producers, academics, marketers, international organizations, chefs, opinion leaders, and all those who believe in building a more sustainable future from the community.

For her part, Citlali Gómez Lepe, president of Comepesca, stated that this event will mark a before and after for the peninsular region.

"We want this meeting to become a movement for sustainable fishing. Registrations will open on October 1; we invite everyone to join," she said.

With the backing of Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, Yucatán opens its doors to showcase its culture, gastronomy, and traditional fishing, solidifying its position as a regional and global reference in the sector.
