PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — Family members, friends, and members of the maritime community demonstrated on Friday night in the Plaza 28 de Julio, in front of the Municipal Palace, to demand justice for the death of their colleague Pablo Cruz, which they have labeled a murder committed by municipal police officers.

Chanting slogans such as, "Police, you are here to protect me, not to kill me," the protesters presented their grievances to dozens of visitors and residents in the city center.

The protest began in the Parque Fundadores on Quinta Avenida, advanced to 10th Street, and then proceeded towards the Plaza 28 de Julio.

Carrying white balloons and signs, attendees expressed pain and outrage, stating that the official version of an alleged intoxication does not correspond to the real causes of the fisherman's death.

It should be recalled that Pablo Cruz died last weekend after being detained by members of the Municipal Police, an incident that has generated indignation and suspicions about a possible abuse of authority.
