Chetumal — In an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm, students at the "Guadalupe Victoria" primary school in the Lagunitas neighborhood of the state capital welcomed Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa to celebrate the inauguration of a new canopy, after a 39-year wait.
This project, which is part of the Governor of Quintana Roo's commitment to build 1,109 canopies that previous governments failed to deliver, will allow 250 students to carry out their civic, cultural, and sporting activities protected from inclement weather.
Accompanied by the honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF system, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, the state executive expressed her satisfaction at being at the school and fulfilling a promise made when the canopy was requested for this primary school, which has been providing educational services to the community for 39 years.
"How does it look? Do you like it?" she asked the students. "We painted the court, we put up the goal posts, we left the net for you to play volleyball, basketball, soccer," explained Mara Lezama to the student body.
To the parents, she stated that the construction of these canopies is possible because this humanist government with a feminist heart combats corruption and allocates the people's money to works for the people.
The Secretary of Public Works (SEOP), José Rafael Lara Díaz, reported that this canopy was erected in 4 months, done correctly the first time to provide 510 square meters of cool shade, in compliance with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, which the Governor promotes with a humanist vision close to the people.
The "Guadalupe Victoria" primary school, founded in 1986 with 39 years of service to the community, has been a breeding ground for generations of girls and boys from the state capital. Today, thanks to this new space, students will be able to carry out sports, civic, and cultural activities in safer and more functional conditions.
Regarding this, student Viviana Monserrat Ballena, from Grade 6-B, thanked the delivery of the new facilities and expressed her satisfaction by stating: "Today we see the canopy materialized, after many years. It will be for sports practice and events that will allow for healthy recreation. This work will leave a mark."
After the protocol ceremony, the students surprised the Governor with "Las Mañanitas" for her birthday. The occasion was complemented by the traditional cake shared among the students and parents.
Mara Lezama also delivered backpacks and uniforms, as the final part of the inauguration ceremony for the new canopy.
