Mérida, Yucatán — Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena led the inauguration of the "Mérida-Teya Station" Security Outpost of the National Guard on Tuesday. The complex will provide lodging for 260 personnel responsible for security at one of the main stations of the Maya Train.
Accompanied by Brigadier General Juan Carlos Guzmán Giadans, territorial coordinator for the Southeast Region of the National Guard, as well as military and municipal authorities, the governor toured the facilities. The outpost is one of six constructed in Yucatán to reinforce surveillance of the railway project.
A Coordinated Security Effort
During the ceremony, Lieutenant Delia Aranza Correa de la Cruz emphasized that this outpost integrates into the first railway security battalion of the southeast, with the goal of guaranteeing the operation of the Maya Train.
"The National Guard works in a coordinated manner because public security, and specifically that of this infrastructure, does not allow for isolated efforts," she stated.
Colonel and construction engineer Ermilo Jiménez Velázquez, the project manager, reported that the outpost required an investment of 279 million, 190 thousand, 723 pesos. Work began on August 26, 2024, and concluded on July 25 of this year, utilizing a five-hectare plot of land within the X Military Region, of which 5,704 square meters were built upon.
Facilities and Capacity
The entire complex consists of a command center, three lodging areas—separated for male personnel, female personnel, and officers—in addition to a dining hall and service buildings.
"With this space, the goal is for the personnel to have dignified living conditions while they fulfill the mission of safeguarding the Maya Train infrastructure," Jiménez Velázquez indicated.
The Mérida-Teya complex is the largest capacity outpost in the state, with space for 260 agents. The other outposts in La Plancha, Maxcanú, Umán, Tixkokob, and Izamal each house between 40 and 88 elements.
Together, these outposts form part of the National Guard's deployment for the security of passengers and the operation of the new railway system connecting the principal cities of the Mexican southeast.
