Cartel Message Found with Body in Bacalar

Bacalar, Mexico — Violence shook the town of Bacalar on Monday after local police officers discovered the body of a man in an advanced state of decomposition on a dirt path near the Tren Maya station. The discovery occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the area known as Aarón Merino, where an abandoned motorcycle and a placard with a message allegedly linked to organized crime were also found.

The victim was identified as Kevin Alexander Dzul Hernández. According to initial reports, the corpse was found among undergrowth, indicating it may have remained there for several days before being discovered.

The placard left next to the body contained explicit threats and mentioned names of other individuals linked to criminal disputes in the area, in addition to referencing the execution of an individual nicknamed "K23" on the riverbank.

The message read: "I found you. You owed me the money for my merchandise. I gave you the chance to leave, but you took my 50,000 pesos, you dog." Above this text were four letters: "Armando, Arnulfo, Sergio, Camila Azael, they are next." The message continued, "This is what happens to the rats who have my merchandise. We are back. Watch out, rats of this business. No one gets off easy. You killed K23 on the riverbank, traitor."

The message, which alludes to debts for merchandise and lost money, confirms that the event is part of a settling of accounts related to drug trafficking. The crudeness of the text, as well as the mention of several names, reflects the perpetrators' intention to send a message of terror to those they identify as rivals or traitors within these networks.
