TULUM, Mexico — In an exercise of transparency with the citizenry, the weekly morning conference "Tulum Comunica y Avanza" (Tulum Communicates and Advances) was held today, led by Municipal President Diego Castañón Trejo. The conference addressed matters of great relevance to the municipality.

"We are an open and transparent government for the population. My team and I are always facing the citizenry, accounting for the actions that are carried out, but above all, we are open to hearing concerns and observations, in order to continue advancing for the benefit of Tulum families," stated the mayor.

Security and Public Safety Updates

According to the press release, Edgar Aguilar Rico, Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, reported that as part of ongoing actions, over the last two weeks, 57 individuals were made available to the Civic Judge for administrative infractions, and 12 more were brought before the Public Prosecutor's Office. These actions are part of field operations aimed at guaranteeing the physical integrity of residents and tourists.

Sargassum Influx Addressed

On another topic, David Buchanan, General Director of the Federal Maritime Zone (ZOFEMAT) of Tulum, reported that although the beaches had remained clean of sargassum in recent weeks, winds have recently changed, causing a massive arrival of the seaweed.

"To give you an idea of the work we are doing, just in September so far, we have collected a total of 983 tons, while in the entire year of 2024, 1,324 tons were gathered. That is to say, we anticipate that this month we will collect nearly as much as in a whole year," he highlighted.

He added that this week, 45 people are joining the ZOFEMAT team, which will help cover more beaches and remove more seaweed. He concluded by stating that, as has been done until now, work will continue intensively in the hope that the weather will become favorable and the sargassum arrival will decrease.

Health Initiatives and Services

Finally, the General Director of Health, Sonia Vargas, indicated that from September 28 to October 3, an anti-rabies vaccination campaign for pets will be carried out, with vaccinations administered in different areas of the municipality in order to bring the service closer and cover the entire jurisdiction.

She concluded by reporting that, following the opening of the municipal ambulance center, nine emergency assists have been carried out to date in different parts of the municipality, as part of a completely free service for all citizens.

President Diego Castañón Trejo reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining direct and clear communication with the population, with openness to address demands and work, authorities and population hand in hand, to continue consolidating the transformation of Tulum.
