Monterrey, Mexico — A Monterrey woman who was the victim of a car accident in Cancún, in which her husband lost his life, arrived in Monterrey on Friday via air and ground transport. She was admitted to Hospital de Zona #21 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) for immediate surgery due to the severe injuries she sustained.
The flight landed at the Mariano Escobedo International Airport in Apodaca. From there, she was transported by ambulance to the facilities of Hospital de Zona #21 in the city center, where she was taken directly into the operating room due to the gravity of her injuries.
The patient was identified as 55-year-old Nancy Griselda Harol Rodríguez. She suffers from fractures in both legs, one arm, and her jaw. Her health condition is reported as delicate, and she will remain under medical monitoring, requiring several surgical interventions in the coming days.
Her mother, Isabel Rodríguez Carrillo, arrived at the hospital around 6:44 p.m. and mentioned that her daughter arrived accompanied by her granddaughter, the victim's daughter.
"She is in very bad shape; she has fractures in her legs, an arm, and her jaw. Right now she is going directly to the operating room; everything is already prepared inside," she stated.
The accident occurred this past Tuesday in the hotel zone of Cancún, when the ride-sharing service taxi in which the Monterrey couple was traveling crashed into a light pole. The collision was of such magnitude that Jesús Mario Martínez Hernández, Nancy's husband and an IMSS employee, lost his life at the scene.
The family reported that the body of Martínez Hernández will be transported to Monterrey on Saturday to be viewed and subsequently buried.
The case has generated shock among family and friends in Nuevo León, who had said goodbye to Jesús Hernández and were also asking for help to transport the body to the city of Monterrey.
Meanwhile, Nancy's health condition is critical, and she is now being treated at the hospital.
