Cancún, Mexico — Tensions between Morena and the Green Party ahead of the 2027 elections are becoming increasingly noticeable and public in various states across the country. This Friday, they were once again exposed in Quintana Roo, where the president of the guinda (burgundy) party, Luisa María Alcalde, ruled out an agreement for the gubernatorial succession with Governor Mara Lezama and reiterated that the 4T's (Fourth Transformation) candidate will be selected through a polling process.

As reported by LPO (La Politica Online), for the upcoming elections, the Green Party is promoting its own figures in the Caribbean state. One of them is Senator Eugenio “Gino” Segura, former Secretary of Finance and Planning for Mara Lezama. He is a key figure in the current administration who seeks to guarantee the continuity of his project within the ruling alliance.

However, Morena is attempting to play the card of the current head of Customs, Rafael Marín Mollinedo. As in various states such as Zacatecas, Guerrero, San Luis Potosí, and Tamaulipas, the differences between Morena and its ally in Quintana Roo are beginning to become evident as the 2027 elections approach.

The divisions are becoming more noticeable each day, and there are already voices within the Green Party (often symbolized by a toucan) promoting a split to put forward their own candidates and, in this way, conquer greater shares of power in the upcoming elections. This entire scenario is raising tensions within the current alliance at a time when President Claudia Sheinbaum is seeking to consolidate her government.

In this context, this Friday, Luisa María Alcalde ruled out, in a press conference, that the 4T would reach an agreement with Mara Lezama to define the succession, reiterating that the method for selecting the candidacy will be a poll.

"Here, anyone can say 'I want to' and 'I'm interested.' Go ahead, there are no anointed candidates, but once the polling process arrives, we close ranks and move forward because what matters is the transformation," she stated from Cancún.

"The people of Quintana Roo will decide because, when the time comes, we will conduct a poll," elaborated the leader of the guinda party, who asserted that "above any personal aspiration is the project for the country."

Furthermore, she indicated that, according to polls already analyzed by the ruling party, Morena would win the governorship in the next elections without major problems, as it is polling around 50% of the voting intention among the local citizenry.
