CANCÚN, Q.Roo — The DIF Benito Juárez family services agency, in conjunction with VKS Victoria’s School, has initiated a childhood cancer awareness campaign in Cancún as part of Golden September, the month dedicated to childhood cancer awareness.

The campaign is being carried out by DIF Benito Juárez through its Directorate of Medical Services in collaboration with VKS Victoria’s School on the 9th, 11th, 25th, and 26th of this month. It features talks aimed at parents, caregivers of minors, and elementary school teachers.

The general director of the social institution, Marisol Sendo, indicated that in Mexico, childhood cancer is one of the leading causes of death in children and adolescents and is the primary cause of death by illness in the group aged five to 14 years. She stated that it is therefore fundamental to generate awareness and knowledge about this disease.

For her part, the coordinator of Medical Services, Brenda Michelle Rojas, reported that throughout this month, various talks and activities are being conducted to give visibility to this ailment and to disseminate the warning signs. She emphasized that early detection and access to timely treatments are crucial for increasing the chances of recovery.

Likewise, she said that various initiatives are being carried out to inform and sensitize the population about childhood cancer for the timely care of children and to enable prompt diagnoses to reduce mortality rates.

A talk titled "Special Guest" was given on September 9. On the 11th, a talk on the prevention of childhood cancer was given. On the upcoming dates, a mural made with recyclable bottle caps alluding to Golden Month will be created on September 25; it will be designed and produced by secondary school students.
