TULUM — A 65-year-old Mexican man identified as Humberto Samperio Pérez died in Akumal Bay after entering the water shortly after finishing a meal.
According to witnesses, the swimmer began to experience difficulties while swimming, which prompted the intervention of local fishermen and a lifeguard. They managed to pull him from the water and administer first aid maneuvers while medical support was requested.
Minutes later, paramedics from a private ambulance and personnel from Civil Protection arrived and continued resuscitation efforts. However, the man no longer showed any vital signs, and his death was confirmed at the scene.
The incident occurred in one of the most popular tourist areas of Akumal, a region renowned for the presence of sea turtles. Competent authorities carried out the corresponding procedures and notified the deceased's next of kin.
