Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A transgender woman was found dead, hanged by a rope, in the early hours of Wednesday in the Puerto Maya subdivision of the Puerto Aventuras municipality.
Discovery and Response
According to neighbors, the woman had not been seen for more than three days. Upon approaching her residence, they discovered the body and immediately contacted emergency services at 911. Police officers arrived at the scene, located at Avenida Calzada del Sol and closed street Camarón, and confirmed the report. Authorities then requested support from the State Attorney General’s Office.
Circumstances of the Death
The body was found seated in a chair, with a rope tied around the neck and secured to a hammock hook. Due to the positioning, initial reports suggest the death may have been a suicide. However, forensic personnel will determine the official cause of death.
Forensic experts processed the scene and transported the body to the Medical Forensic Service, where it was admitted as unidentified.
The case remains under investigation.
