Cancún, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver affiliated with the Andrés Quintana Roo union was wounded in a failed execution attempt Saturday morning near Plaza Las Américas. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. when emergency services received reports of a gunshot victim following an armed attack near Supermanzana 8 on Nichupté Avenue, adjacent to the shopping center.
Details of the Attack
Initial reports indicate the taxi driver was traveling in his Volkswagen Vento, bearing the fleet number 1125, along Nichupté Avenue when a gray Chevrolet Aveo without license plates pulled alongside him. Armed individuals inside the vehicle opened fire, striking the driver.
“At the moment, an armed attack was reported near Plaza Las Américas in Cancún, where unfortunately a man was injured.”
The victim stated that after the shooting, the assailants fled toward Bonampak Avenue. Paramedics promptly arrived and transported the injured taxi driver to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police Response
Authorities from the Public Security Ministry cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and investigate the crime scene. No arrests have been reported in connection with the attack.

The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
