Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo has confirmed the arrest of two former municipal officials linked to the 2021–2024 administration of ex-mayor Lili Campos Miranda. The arrests stem from alleged irregularities in the allocation of municipal land originally designated for public security personnel in Playa del Carmen.
Details of the Case
The detained individuals are Ariadne "N.," who served as private secretary to the former mayor, and Jorge "N.," former director of Legal Disputes for the municipality. Both are accused of involvement in the improper assignment of plots in the Cristo Rey neighborhood. These lands were initially earmarked for operational staff of the Public Security Directorate under a project launched during the 2013–2016 administration.
Investigations suggest the properties were unlawfully granted to individuals outside the original registry through alleged abuse of authority and diversion of public resources. This prompted the initiation of criminal proceedings against the former officials.
Judicial Process
The two ex-officials were remanded to the State Judiciary and transferred to the Municipal Detention Center, where they await a hearing to determine their formal indictment. The Attorney General’s Office has not ruled out summoning additional former officials for questioning or potential charges as the investigation remains ongoing.
The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of past municipal administrations and their handling of public assets. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to accountability in matters of alleged corruption.
