Cancún, Quintana Roo — The interest of tourists in traveling with their pets has grown significantly, prompting several hotels in Quintana Roo to adapt and become pet-friendly spaces to meet this expanding demand.

Minor, a Pioneer in Pet-Friendly Hospitality

Although few lodging centers currently accept animals, the Minor chain made the decision after the pandemic to enable its 18 properties in Mexico and Cuba to welcome guests' pets. Octavio Altamirano, general manager of the Avanni Cancún Airport hotel, emphasized that this strategy has been key to maintaining the preference of this type of traveler.

Since June, Avanni Cancún Airport has reported strong occupancy, averaging 70%, a figure higher than other destinations in the state that have seen relatively low levels. This positive performance is also attributed to various events that attract visitors.

Special Promotions Planned for Year-End

Additionally, the hotel is preparing promotions for the upcoming season, including special dishes like chile en nogada, Christmas posadas, and other activities. Although considered a corporate hotel due to its proximity to the airport, Avanni aims to stand out with a fresh and disruptive offering based on unique experiences for guests and their pets.

With this growing trend, pet-inclusive tourism represents an opportunity that hotels and destinations are beginning to leverage to attract an increasingly broad and demanding segment of travelers.
