Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A Ford vehicle plowed into the counter of a Seven Eleven convenience store early Tuesday morning after the driver reportedly confused the accelerator for the reverse pedal. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on July 28th Avenue in the Cataluña residential area of Playa del Carmen.

Accident Details

According to witness accounts, the driver was parked in a stall at the store’s parking lot when she started the vehicle and mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of shifting into reverse. The car lurched forward, shattering the store’s glass entrance and colliding with a product shelf before coming to a stop inside the establishment.

Neither the driver nor her passenger sustained injuries, eliminating the need for medical assistance. Municipal Police estimated the property damage at approximately 200,000 pesos.

Investigation and Aftermath

A traffic expert from the Municipal Transit Directorate arrived at the scene to document the incident and determine liability. The vehicle was subsequently towed to an impound lot.

No further legal action has been reported as authorities continue their assessment.
