Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Government of Isla Mujeres has reclaimed a public space in Playa Norte after an inspection revealed unauthorized commercial use of the area. The operation, conducted by the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT), aimed to restore unrestricted beach access for residents and tourists.
Unauthorized Occupation Detected
During the review of occupancy permits, authorities identified that one of the main access points to Playa Norte lacked the required concessions or commercial permits for the placement of lounge chairs and other furniture. As a result, the municipality initiated the removal of these structures, restoring the area for public use.
Commitment to Public Access
Dayana Pérez Medina, Director of ZOFEMAT, stated that these actions reflect the municipal government’s ongoing efforts to protect public beaches. "With measures like these, we reaffirm our commitment to recovering and preserving public spaces that have been improperly occupied for years," she said. "Beaches belong to all Mexicans."
The operation aligns with the municipality’s broader policy to maintain clean, accessible, and orderly beaches in compliance with federal regulations.
