Mexico City — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that the federal government’s strategic infrastructure projects are proving profitable and driving national development. Among these are the Maya Train, which has transported over one million passengers to date, with its freight line set to open by late 2026; the Mundo Maya Hotels and their affiliated parks, offering 10 affordable tourist packages this summer; the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which has served 13.5 million passengers with a 90.14% satisfaction rate; the Tulum International Airport, handling over 2 million passengers; and the state-owned airline Mexicana, reporting 93% passenger satisfaction and 600,000 travelers transported so far.

Strategic Projects Yield Tangible Results

During her morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” Sheinbaum stated, “Everything is backed by business models and is functioning. Beyond the professionalism and patriotism of those leading these enterprises, there is rigorous monthly oversight to ensure targets are met. These projects work and will continue to improve—their short-term profitability is guaranteed for Mexicana de Aviación, the Maya Train, the hotels, and the parks. This is not improvisation; it’s a structured plan. Without it, the Mexican southeast would have remained neglected.”

Maya Train: Passenger and Freight Expansion

Óscar David Lozano, Director General of the Maya Train, reported that all 34 stations are operational, with 1,359,317 passengers transported as of July 15, 2025, reflecting a 19% monthly growth. He announced 10 summer tourist packages, available for booking at www.trenmaya.gob.mx, via email, or by phone.

The freight line, a critical component, is slated for completion by late 2026. Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, Commander of the Agrupamiento de Ingenieros “Felipe Ángeles,” confirmed that the first phase—featuring intermodal terminals in Palenque, Progreso, Poxilá, and Cancún—will be ready within 18 months. The project has generated 5,000 jobs, with over 4,000 still active, alongside the rehabilitation of 66.7 kilometers of rail branches. Additionally, 1,320 kilometers of federal toll-free highways have been upgraded at a cost of 5 billion pesos (mdp).

Mundo Maya Hotels and Parks

Adolfo Héctor Tonatiuh Velasco Bernal, Director General of Grupo Mundo Maya, highlighted the seven four-star hotels managed by the National Defense Ministry: Tulum, Calakmul, Palenque, Chichen Itzá, Edzná, Tulum Airport, and Nuevo Uxmal. These properties have created 986 direct jobs, while affiliated parks have welcomed 8.6 million visitors. Tourist packages, including flights, lodging, activities, meals, and transport, are available at hotelesgrupomundomaya.com.

AIFA and Tulum Airports

Isidoro Pastor Román, Director General of AIFA, noted 38 domestic routes and 13.5 million passengers served, with a 90.14% satisfaction rate. The airport expects to exceed 7.3 million passengers in 2025. Meanwhile, the Tulum International Airport has handled over 2 million passengers since its inauguration, including 747,000 in 2025 alone, with projections of 1.3 million by year-end.

Mexicana Airlines’ Fleet Expansion

Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, Director of Mexicana, reported 600,000 passengers transported and 93% satisfaction. The airline has acquired 20 Embraer 190/195 E2 aircraft, with one already delivered, four more expected in 2025, seven in 2026, and eight in 2027.

Interoceanic Corridor Progress

Sheinbaum also confirmed that the Interoceanic Train’s Line K, connecting Ixtepec, Oaxaca, to Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, will commence operations in 2026.

The president’s remarks underscored the administration’s commitment to infrastructure as a catalyst for regional development and economic growth.
