Mexico — The Tren Maya has announced a 2-for-1 travel promotion valid from June 20 to June 30, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to boost passenger mobility across southeastern Mexico. The discount applies exclusively to local residents eligible for the domestic fare upon presenting their voter identification card issued by the National Electoral Institute (INE).

Eligibility and Purchase Details

Residents of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatán, or Quintana Roo can access the promotion by purchasing tickets in person at any Tren Maya station and presenting their INE credential. The offer is limited to tourist-class tickets, allowing two passengers to travel for the price of one.

Operational Stations Along the Route

The Tren Maya currently operates nearly 30 stations across five states:

  • Chiapas and Tabasco: Key stations include Palenque, Boca del Cerro, and El Triunfo, serving as strategic points along the initial route.
  • Campeche: Operational stations span Candelaria, Escárcega, Champotón (Carrillo Puerto), Edzná, Tenabo, Hecelchakán, Calkiní, and the central San Francisco de Campeche, linking jungle and coastal regions.
  • Yucatán: Active stations cover Maxcanú, Umán, Mérida-Teya, Tixkokob, Izamal, Chichén Itzá, and Valladolid, providing access to major archaeological sites and urban centers.
  • Quintana Roo: Stations in service include Nuevo Xcán, Leona Vicario, Cancún Airport, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Tulum Airport, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, connecting key tourist destinations in the Riviera Maya.

Recent Promotions and Connectivity

The 2-for-1 initiative follows other recent promotions aimed at enhancing ridership. Earlier this month, the Tren Maya introduced the MayaPass, an unlimited travel pass for routes between Mérida and Tulum ahead of the summer vacation period.

In a June 2 social media post, the Tren Maya account highlighted the system’s intermodal connectivity, emphasizing frequent departures, affordable fares starting at $25, and seamless access to destinations like Cancún, Tulum, Bacalar, and Chichén Itzá.

The promotion aligns with broader efforts to integrate transportation networks and stimulate regional tourism while prioritizing affordability for local communities.
