Akumal, Quintana Roo — The Tulum Municipal Health Directorate has launched an intensive fumigation campaign in the community of Akumal to mitigate health risks and prevent dengue cases. The initiative also aims to curb the proliferation of other disease-carrying pests.

Preventive Fumigation to Safeguard Akumal Families

Municipal teams deployed specialized insecticide across residential areas, targeting strategic locations where mosquito breeding sites commonly accumulate. Local authorities emphasized that dengue, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, can be prevented through simple household measures such as eliminating stagnant water and discarding unused objects.

Citizen Participation Key to Prevention

In addition to fumigation, the Health Directorate urged residents to contribute to prevention efforts by adopting the following measures:

  • Emptying or covering water-collecting containers.
  • Removing old tires and debris from yards.
  • Keeping water tanks and buckets securely covered.

Tulum Reaffirms Commitment to Public Health

The municipal government reiterated its pledge to expand these fumigation efforts to other communities. Officials stressed that prevention is a shared responsibility between authorities and citizens to ensure a healthier environment.
