Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Darwin Covarrubias, Secretary of Civil Protection, denied reports of an explosion at the Nickelodeon Hotel in Playa del Carmen this past weekend, clarifying that the viral claims circulating on social media were false.

Rumors had spread online alleging injuries and even one fatality due to the purported incident. Civil Protection personnel responded to the scene and confirmed no emergency had occurred. “We spoke with the hotel’s security personnel and verified everything was in order,” Covarrubias stated.

No Hospital Reports or Evidence of Incident

Covarrubias further emphasized that no local hospitals reported admissions related to injuries from the alleged explosion. He warned that such misinformation creates unnecessary panic and damages the tourist reputation of the destination.

The Nickelodeon Hotel also issued an official statement refuting the claims and did not rule out legal action against those responsible for spreading unverified information.

The false reports were widely shared on social media platforms, prompting authorities to publicly clarify the situation to prevent further misinformation.
