Tulum, Quintana Roo — British music legend Sting delivered an unforgettable live performance at the inaugural Mexican Caribbean Music Fest on May 17, 2025, captivating a crowd of more than 22,000 at the stunning jungle venue of Zamna Park in Tulum. The free concert marked a major cultural milestone in Quintana Roo’s growing strategy to position itself as a global destination for high-profile entertainment and sustainable tourism.
A Night of Unforgettable Music
Fans from around the world gathered for the open-air show as part of Sting’s acclaimed Sting 3.0 tour, which features stripped-down, intimate performances alongside longtime collaborator Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. The setlist included timeless classics like “Fields of Gold,” “Englishman in New York,” and “Every Breath You Take,” as well as deeper cuts that spanned his decades-long career.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa shared photos and praise from the evening, calling the concert “a celebration of the cultural, touristic, and musical wealth that Quintana Roo offers to the world.” She emphasized that events like this not only enrich the cultural landscape, but also deliver tangible economic benefits to local communities.
To ensure broad access, 22,000 free tickets were distributed to the public earlier in May. An additional 4,000 exclusive passes were bundled into premium tourist packages curated by hotels in the region, according to the Mexican Caribbean Hotel Council.
The regional bus company ADO provided round-trip shuttle service for attendees, making it easy and safe for concertgoers to get to and from the remote venue, nestled deep in the Riviera Maya jungle.

Economic Boost for Tulum and the Riviera Maya
The impact wasn’t just musical—it was economic. According to Antonio Chaves Palomo, president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, hotel occupancy for the month of May surged to 70%, up more than 20% over typical averages. Many visitors extended their stays by three to seven days, bringing increased foot traffic to local hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, and tour operators across the region.
Preliminary estimates from municipal economic reports suggest the festival may have generated upwards of $2.3 million USD in local revenue.
Cultural Tourism Strategy in Action
The Mexican Caribbean Music Fest, produced in partnership with public and private stakeholders, represents a bold step forward in the state’s tourism strategy. The goal? Attract high-spending, culturally engaged travelers who are drawn not only by the beaches, but by music, art, and meaningful experiences rooted in the natural and historical richness of the region.
Concert tourism, in particular, is a growing niche market. Visitors often spend more, stay longer, and seek out high-end services like VIP experiences and boutique accommodations. Hosting global icons like Sting at eco-conscious venues such as Zamna Park helps reinforce Quintana Roo’s reputation as a destination that blends luxury, sustainability, and cultural relevance.
A Successful First Edition
By all accounts, the first edition of the Mexican Caribbean Music Fest was a resounding success—musically, logistically, and economically. With the bar now set high, residents and tourism leaders alike are already anticipating what future editions of the festival might bring.
As the final notes of “Message in a Bottle” echoed through the jungle, attendees walked away with more than just the memory of an iconic performance—they left with a renewed sense of what makes the Riviera Maya truly world-class.
