Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), in coordination with the Mexican Navy (Semar), has seized a property of approximately 30,000 square meters in the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation of Benito Juárez municipality due to alleged environmental crimes, urban development violations, and damage to vegetation cover.
The action followed a complaint filed by the Benito Juárez Ecology Directorate, which allowed the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, Wildlife, and Urban Development to request and obtain a search warrant from a Control Judge.
During the execution of the judicial order, agents and personnel from the Quintana Roo State College of Biologists confirmed severe environmental deterioration on the lot.
The 30,000 square meter surface was found completely cleared and deforested, lacking the necessary permits for such activities.
In addition to vegetation removal, the land was observed to have been filled and compacted with rocky material. Organic waste such as branches, trunks, and weeds, resulting from the total removal of vegetation cover, was found on site, representing imminent damage with serious repercussions for the area’s flora, fauna, soil, and ecosystems.
Initial FGE investigations indicate that the developers lack any municipal or state authorization for the clearing work, as well as construction permits for the real estate development that, despite irregularities, continues to be offered for sale.
The property has been formally seized and is under the custody of the State Attorney General’s Office to continue with the corresponding investigations.
