Mérida, Yuc. — The State Government announced a new transfer of 75 million pesos to the Yucatán Transportation Agency (Agencia de Transporte de Yucatán, ATY) to ensure a safe and efficient service for the 'Va y Ven' public transportation system, which benefits more than 500,000 daily users. The total backup investment to date now stands at 1,080 million pesos.

According to an official statement, 25 million pesos of the new funds originate from the Agency itself, with the other 50 million provided by the local government. The statement described this as "a joint effort to ensure an efficient and accessible service."

With this new contribution, the accumulated total of extraordinary transfers to guarantee the operability of the 'Va y Ven' system has risen to 1,080 million pesos. This figure includes the 1,005 million pesos previously allocated—which featured an initial extraordinary contribution of 105 million pesos in August—plus the 75 million pesos now announced. In total, the two extraordinary contributions for August and September amount to 180 million pesos.

These funds support the operation of 492 'Va y Ven' units serving the state capital of Mérida, as well as the eastern municipalities of Valladolid and Tizimín.

The state congress approved a 2025 budget for the ATY totaling 2,544 million 780 thousand 268 pesos. Of this total, 143 million 780 thousand 268 pesos are allocated for the Agency's operation; 700 million pesos for the state subsidy; and 1,611 million pesos to projected self-generated income from user fare collection.

To date, the ATY reports an expenditure of 1,550 million 570 thousand 573 pesos, comprised of 937 million 122 thousand 117 pesos from the state subsidy and 613 million 448 thousand 455 pesos from self-generated income.

The State Government underscored that the formulation of the expenditure budget is the exclusive purview of the Executive branch, while its approval is the responsibility of the Congress, in accordance with the Constitution and the Budget and Fiscal Responsibility Law.

However, the administration led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena has deemed it indispensable to consult and listen to the various actors within the transportation system to ensure that financial projections are realistic, responsible, and in line with public mobility policy.

Within this framework, the ATY maintains an open dialogue with concession holders and operators with the goal of consolidating a modern, accessible public transportation system with sound finances to guarantee the mobility of Yucatán's residents in the coming years, the statement concluded.
