Cancún, Quintana Roo — A vehicle fire on José López Portillo Avenue in Cancún’s Supermanzana 104 prompted a large-scale emergency response on February 16, causing temporary traffic disruptions and extensive damage to the car.
Emergency services received reports of a car engulfed in flames along the roadway. Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle in full combustion, with flames spreading across most of its structure.
They immediately deployed containment and extinguishing operations to prevent the fire from reaching other vehicles or endangering pedestrians. The efforts lasted several minutes before crews fully extinguished the blaze.
The damaged vehicle was identified as a blue Fiat that sustained approximately 90% structural damage. The intense fire severely affected the car’s bodywork, electrical system, and interior.
During the emergency response, one lane of José López Portillo Avenue remained partially closed, causing slow traffic in the area while firefighters worked and crews later removed the vehicle.
No injuries were reported from the incident, with only material losses recorded. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
After extinguishing the flames and eliminating any additional risks, authorities secured the area and removed the vehicle with a tow truck, gradually restoring normal traffic flow.
