Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Hugo Iván Sánchez Montalvo, the Secretary General of the Isla Mujeres municipal government, conducted an oversight tour of the town center this afternoon, confirming significant progress on the ongoing project to bury the area's electrical lines.
During the visit, the municipal official reported that the work is now 90% complete on Rueda Medina Avenue and 75% complete on Guerrero Avenue. This represents substantial progress on the project, which is designed to transform the urban landscape of the town center and modernize the municipality's electrical infrastructure.
The tour took place along Juárez Avenue, between Bravo and Allende streets, where crews are currently working on the residential downspouts. The primary objective of this project is to eliminate the overhead electrical wiring and deteriorated utility poles.
Coordinated Efforts with the Navy
Sánchez Montalvo explained that these municipal works are being carried out in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), which is also conducting significant work to run an electrical line from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) substation to the new Mexican Navy Hospital, also via underground conduits.
He clarified that, concurrently with the work being performed by the Secretariat of the Navy, the municipal government is installing its own underground ducts to advance in parallel with the installation of the electrical service connections.
Focus on Safety and Aesthetics
The Coordinator of Public Works, Ángel Hernández Azueta, provided further details on the project's status. On Rueda Medina Avenue, he stated, work is now focused primarily on the residential service connections, which were previously aerial and will now be underground, guaranteeing greater safety and a more orderly appearance.
Meanwhile, on Guerrero Avenue, the efforts have been concentrated on the final stretch of duct installation.
Furthermore, Hernández Azueta explained that the placement of new paving stones on the intervened streets will begin next week, which will restore the road surface and the aesthetic of the town center.
"These are works that may not be immediately visible because they are underground, but they are fundamental to guaranteeing better electrical service and for building a more orderly and modern Isla Mujeres," emphasized the Secretary General during the tour.
Timed for Tourism
Finally, Sánchez Montalvo highlighted that these projects were strategically planned to avoid impacting the high tourism season, which is set to begin in the second week of December. This scheduling ensures that both residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a cleaner, safer town center with a completely renewed electrical infrastructure.
