Drug Bust in Playa del Carmen After K-9 Alert

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A man identified as Alex Efraín “N” was arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime of possession of illicit substances against public health during a preventive operation on the federal highway between Cancún and Tulum.

The arrest was made after a specialized narcotics detection K-9 unit gave a positive alert toward the driver of a public service vehicle. Following this signal, municipal security officers conducted a preventive inspection, locating various packages of a green, dry vegetable with characteristics similar to marijuana among the subject's belongings.

Authorities also seized cash and a cellular phone during the inspection.

The detainee was identified as Alex Efraín “N,” a 33-year-old man originally from Yucatán. He, along with the suspected narcotics, the vehicle, and other secured evidence, was turned over to the State Attorney General's Office for corresponding investigations and the determination of legal responsibilities in accordance with the law.
