Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Authorities located an automobile with multiple gunshot impacts on Monday afternoon along a stretch of Federal Highway 307. The discovery was made in the area between the Valentin and Dorado Royale hotels.
The vehicle was found partially hidden among undergrowth, which drew the attention of motorists traveling through the zone. Those individuals subsequently alerted emergency services.
Personnel from the National Guard, Municipal Police, and forensic experts from the State Attorney General's Office arrived at the site to initiate corresponding investigative procedures. The area was immediately cordoned off, causing slight vehicular congestion in the Playa del Carmen–Cancún direction, primarily near the entrance to the Dorado Maroma hotel.
Witnesses reported that the presence of authorities caused a stir among drivers using the federal highway, as the vehicle displayed clear projectile perforations in its bodywork and windows.
At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether any injured or deceased persons were located inside the automobile.
The vehicle remains under guard while forensic examinations are conducted and ballistic evidence is collected from the area. The State Attorney General's Office stated that an official announcement is expected in the coming hours to detail the number of bullet impacts, the identity of the owner, and the possible relation of this incident to other ongoing investigations in the region.
Although a motive for the attack has not yet been determined, initial lines of inquiry point to possible score-settling related to organized crime.
