Residents Find Bound Man Alive in Cancún After Apparent Kidnapping Attempt

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Neighbors rescued a man who was found bound and covered with stones in a green area of Cancún on Tuesday morning, after what appears to have been a kidnapping attempt where his captors left him for dead.

Residents of the Copa Buena neighborhood heard cries for help around 9:50 a.m. and discovered the man with his hands tied behind his back, partially buried under stones and trash. He was conscious and showing vital signs despite his injuries.

Emergency services responded to a 911 call from the area near the former municipal landfill between Arco Vial and Gastón Alegre López avenues in Supermanzana 244. Red Cross paramedics provided first aid at the scene before rushing the victim to General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Police from the Municipal Security and Transit Department, State Police, and the Mexican Navy arrived at the location after the C5 security complex activated response protocols. Residents guided officers approximately 15 meters into the green area where the man lay.

The victim, who wore only brown shorts and had no shirt, showed signs of severe beating. He had exposed buttocks apparently from being struck with a board, along with bruises on his back, chest, and head.

State Prosecutor’s Office investigators briefly interviewed the man at the scene. He reportedly told them he was kidnapped Monday night, beaten at a safe house in the area, then bound and pelted with stones in what appeared to be an attempt to kill him.

Civil Protection paramedics evaluated the victim before transporting him to Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital, where he remains in serious condition with a guarded prognosis.

Police sources said investigators have launched an inquiry into the incident. They believe the kidnappers assumed the man was dead after covering him with stones and trash, not expecting he would survive for hours until neighbors found him.
