Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Residents detained a man suspected of theft in the city’s downtown area on Wednesday, holding him until police arrived to take him into custody.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Avenida 45 and Calle 2 Bis in the Centro neighborhood, where locals recognized the individual as a suspected member of a group known as the “farderos de Cancún.” Authorities say this group has been linked to small-scale shoplifting operations targeting businesses throughout the region.
After noticing the suspect, people in the area intervened directly to prevent him from leaving, securing him while they reported the situation to authorities.
Municipal police officers responded to the scene to take control of the situation, prevent any escalation, and ensure proper legal procedures were followed. They transported the man for further investigation, where his legal status will be determined based on evidence and any formal complaints from victims.
Officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity or specified what items he allegedly stole or their value. The appropriate agencies will gather testimony and evidence to determine any legal responsibilities.
