Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — In an era dominated by platforms, algorithms, and AI-generated music, artists should focus on being tangible rather than chasing viral fame, according to rapper Caudillo del Sur, who released his new album on Saturday after six years of work.

The rapper, originally from Morelos but now based in Playa del Carmen, described his new album “Revolución Arte Poesía” (RAP) as a “sonic manifesto.” Through the project, the biologist by profession aims to give voice to flora and fauna while reclaiming Mexican history and culture.

In an interview ahead of his live performance scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cafebrería Zapatista in Villas del Sol’s first park, Caudillo del Sur said he strives to infuse his music with meaning through lyrics, hoping listeners perceive it as speaking to the world they inhabit for a deeper connection.

He dismissed the current obsession with “virality” and chasing algorithms that prioritize superficiality, arguing such results are fleeting and will ultimately lose to the growing threat of artificial intelligence.

“Now anyone can ask a computer to generate music, and it comes out with good production, but its content will always be empty,” he said. “The response is a type of resistance, through deeper ideas and feelings, so that those who listen seek that tangible contact, can go to a concert and see the real artist there in person, and maybe buy a physical, real album.”

For Caudillo del Sur, that album is “Revolución Arte Poesía,” where he explores his perspective on what rap is across nine tracks.

“I’ve put a lot of my personal and professional work into it, being a biologist,” he commented.

The production begins with “Mi prólogo,” where he outlines the direction of his music from his perspective.

It is followed by “Quezalkán,” a fusion of Mayan and Nahuatl myths, urging that one should not wait for the arrival of the feathered serpent “but that it is here, in our blood.”

“Conexión” is a track released in collaboration with Chilean artist Mikorriza, which, ironically though made possible by the internet, speaks about the need for personal connection beyond social media.
