Full Vehicle Tax Subsidy Announced for 2026 Plate Renewal

The Government of Quintana Roo announced that taxpayers who are current on their vehicle control payments will be able to access a 100% subsidy on the Vehicle Tax when renewing their 2026 license plates, provided the procedure is carried out between January and March of next year.

This measure, reported by the Quintana Roo Tax Administration Service (SATQ), aims to update the vehicle registry, strengthen orderly collection, and provide economic relief to vehicle owners in the state.

The benefit will apply only to those who do not have outstanding debts from previous years for vehicle control. In case of arrears, taxpayers must regularize their fiscal situation to access the full tax discount.

2026 License Plate Renewal Costs in Quintana Roo

The license plate renewal process in Quintana Roo will begin in January 2026, considered the month with the lowest rates of the year. According to the SATQ, the costs will be as follows:

• Cars and trucks: 1,527 pesos
• Trailers: 707 pesos
• Motorcycles: 509 pesos

To these amounts, payment of 141 pesos for the new circulation card must be added.

For the month of February, costs will increase due to the annual adjustment of the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA). Starting in April 2026, in addition to the UMA increase, the Vehicle Tax will be charged again, except for those who took advantage of the subsidy during the first three months of the year.

Vehicle Registry Update and State Collection

The Secretariat of Finance and Planning (Sefiplan) reported that for the 2025 Fiscal Year, collection of 251 million 792 thousand 412 pesos is estimated for the tax on vehicle use or ownership.

By the third quarter of the year, Quintana Roo had already recorded income of 224 million 846 thousand 952 pesos, reflecting a high level of compliance by taxpayers.

The SATQ also announced that between 2020 and 2023, the state’s vehicle registry grew by 19.3%, going from 890,320 to 1,062,550 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, trailers, trucks, semi-trailers, and public transportation units.

With these actions, the Government of Quintana Roo seeks to promote vehicle regularization, maintain an updated state registry, and offer tax incentives that directly benefit citizens.
